A first consultation is a no obligation conversation. You come to gather information, the doctor gets to know your question and together you consider whether a treatment or procedure makes sense. In this article you can read how such a consultation at ACLINIC proceeds, from the car park to the moment you go home again.
Making an appointment
You can schedule a consultation online via the booking system on the website, or by telephone via the reception on 050 97 79 30. When scheduling you choose a doctor. You receive personal advice and afterwards you decide yourself whether and when you go further.
If you would like to ask something first before you schedule a consultation, that is possible by telephone. The reception helps you with practical questions. Medical questions are discussed with the doctor.
Arriving at the clinic
ACLINIC is located at Gruuthuselaan 7 in Oostkamp, close to Brugge and the exit of the E40. Below the building there is a private car park. From there the lift takes you to the ground floor, where the reception welcomes you.
If you come by public transport, you take the train to Oostkamp, a ten minute walk away. From Brugge, bus 211 runs to the Oostkamp Stationsstraat stop, two minutes from the clinic.
In the waiting area you fill in a short questionnaire and have something to drink.
The conversation with the doctor
The consultation takes place in one of our calming consultation rooms. It generally proceeds in four parts.
The consultation usually comprises these four parts
-
1
Your question
You tell what you want to discuss and why. The doctor asks further about what bothers you, since when, and what you expect from a treatment.
-
2
Your medical history
Previous operations, conditions, medication, allergies, smoking and pregnancies. That information helps determine whether a procedure can be done safely.
-
3
The examination
The doctor examines the area concerned and looks at the skin, the tissue and the proportions. If applicable, medical photos are already taken at that moment for your file.
-
4
The advice
The doctor explains which options there are. For each option you hear which technique, anaesthesia and recovery time go with it, and which risks and scars you can expect.
Honest advice
The consultation is there to inform. The doctor will also say so when a procedure is not advisable, when another moment suits better or when a less invasive treatment is sufficient.
Feel free to ask anything you want to know. How long will I be at home? When may I do sports again? Where will the scar be, and what will it look like after a year? Who can I call after the procedure?
Who you meet
At the reception the receptionist welcomes you. The consultation itself of course takes place with the doctor. Questions about the planning of a procedure go later to the practice manager, and after a procedure the nurses follow you up. Team work makes the dream work. We take that very literally. Your experience is our main priority.
What you tell during the consultation is of course covered by medical confidentiality. Your data and photos are kept in a secured medical file.
A treatment without surgery
For a treatment without surgery, such as botulinum toxin or fillers, the consultation is often shorter or unnecessary. Sometimes such a treatment can take place during the same visit.
After the consultation
You go home with information and take the time to let everything sink in. If you still have doubts, you can certainly request a second conversation. For aesthetic surgery the law prescribes a reflection period of at least fifteen days.
If you decide to go further, you schedule the procedure with the practice manager. Afterwards you receive all the practical information on paper.
Virtually all procedures take place in our own operating theatre in Oostkamp. Procedures with an overnight stay take place in the hospital where the doctor works.
